"Thank you so much for your unique and invaluable support for our launch of LEPnet. We have been delighted to be able to work with you on this innovative poverty reduction project."
We started by working out how much energy is consumed by our hosting operations. This includes:
For each unit of energy consumed, we purchase the same amount of certified renewable energy — generated from renewable sources such as wind and solar — and this energy is injected onto the grid.
In an ideal world, we would use this renewable energy directly to power our servers. Unfortunately, we do not have control over the energy contract which supplies the datacentre.
What we do is ensure that the renewable energy we purchase is put onto the same regional power grids from which we draw the energy. We pay the premium for the renewable energy and someone on the grid will use it (at regular rates). The net effect is as if we had used it ourselves.
We are proud to take this initiative to reduce our carbon footprint and help support the growing green power market.
