NEWTON, Kan.—Dennis M. Good has announced his intention to step
down as publisher and president of Mennonite Publishing House effective June 1,
2002. He has served in that role since August 2001.
"Dennis brought to denominational publishing an important continuity of leadership
experience during the initial months of transition to a single denominational
publisher," said Ron Sawatsky, interim Mennonite Publishing House board chair
and moderator of Mennonite Church Canada. "We commend Dennis for his dedicated
and conscientious work amidst a very difficult financial environment for denominational
publishing.
"Dennis has been known by all who have worked with him as an impassioned
advocate for the importance of publishing to the Anabaptist witness in the world.
As a board, our challenge will be to find a new long-term leader for Mennonite
Publishing House who can match that."
On February 1, 2001, Faith & Life Press, the former General Conference Mennonite
Church publisher based in Newton, merged with Mennonite Publishing House, the
former Mennonite Church publisher, based in Scottdale, Pa. Good initially became
executive vice president of the merged entity, before assuming the chief executive
role from J. Robert Ramer six months later.
"On behalf of the wider church in the United States and Canada, the board
of Mennonite Publishing House conveys to Dennis its sincere appreciation for his
years of loyal service to the denomination and its various publishing ministries,"
said Ervin Stutzman, interim vice chair of the MPH Board and moderator of Mennonite
Church USA.
Good transitioned from a long career in private business to become director of
finance and operations for Faith & Life Press in July 1996. In November 1997,
he was appointed executive secretary of the General Conference Commission on Education
and publisher of Faith & Life Press. In that capacity, he oversaw major aspects
of the merger of the two denominational publishers.
Prior to his roles in the Mennonite Church, Good served six years as a member
of the General Board of the Brethren in Christ Church. He attended Goshen (Ind.)
College and is a graduate of the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He lives in
North Newton, Kan., with his wife, Dorcas.
